Virtual desktops (VDs) can be accessed from any internet-connected device.
While convenient, things work a little differently when using a VD, including downloading videos.
Can you even download YouTube videos with a virtual desktop?
How to Download YouTube Videos with a Virtual Desktop
Downloading YouTube videos with a virtual desktop is easier than you think. It takes just a few simple steps to start downloading videos with your VD.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Find a YouTube Video to Download
First, head over to YouTube and find the video that you want to download.
Open the video. It should start playing. You’ll want to stay on this page to follow the next steps.
Step 2: Add “vd” To the Video’s URL
If you’ve ever downloaded YouTube videos by adding “ss” to the URL, this method is similar. Except this time, we’re going to add “vd” to the URL.
Add the “vd” after “www.” and before “youtube” in the address bar. Next, hit Enter.
For example, if the video is found at youtube.com/examplevid you would simply change the URL to www.vdyoutube.com/examplevid.
Once you hit Enter, you should be redirected to VDYouTube. There should be a download button just above the video you want to download.
Note: VDYouTube’s site is currently being flagged as malicious, so be very careful when using the site.
It’s best to use another method of downloading whenever possible.
Step 3: Choose Quality and Format
Before you click the Download button, take a moment to scroll down and choose your video quality and format.
Adjust the settings however you want.
If you’re on a slower Internet connection or you’re dealing with data caps, you’ll want to download the video in a lower quality format.
A 4K video may be very large, causing you to blow past your data cap or slow down your Internet connection.
Even going from 4K to HD will reduce the file size enough to download the file quickly and not impact your data cap too much.
Step 4: Download Your Video
Once you’ve adjusted your settings, click the Download button.
You’ll need to wait for the video to download. Be sure to scan the file after it downloads and ensure that it is working properly.
If the download fails, follow the steps above again to see if it was a one-off issue.
A Note About Downloading Videos
If you follow the steps above, you can download YouTube videos using your virtual desktop. However, be cautious.
Many websites and solutions that offer the option to download videos using a virtual desktop are riddled with malware.
Instead, we recommend using other methods of downloading YouTube videos, such as:
- Browser add-ons
- VLC player
Unfortunately, the demand for YouTube video downloads is very high.
People are always willing to exploit this type of demand for their own gain, so be sure to run an anti-virus and anti-malware solution, such as Malwarebytes, to keep your devices safe and secure.
The Bottom Line
Virtual desktops make it difficult for you to download YouTube videos.
If you follow the guide above, you’ll have a much easier time downloading videos successfully.
